Driving lessons and Driving Tests in England

Driving lessons Can restart in tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 areas on Wednesday 2 December 2020.
Driving Tests Can restart in tier 1 and 2 areas on Wednesday 2 December 2020, and in tier 3 areas on Thursday 3 December.
Theory Tests Restart on Wed 2nd December

You can not travel out of England to take a driving test in Wales or Scotland. If you do, you will not be allowed to take a test.

Driving lessons and Driving Tests in Scotland

You can still take Driving Lessons and Driving Tests in Scotland including the Theory Test, however Instructors and pupils must wear face coverings during driving lessons and practice sessions.
Driving tests are taking place in council areas in local COVID protection levels 0 to 3.
Driving tests are suspended in council areas in local COVID protection level 4. You must not travel out of a level 4 area to take your driving test somewhere else.
If you do not wear a face covering, you must have a good reason, for example:

  • you have a physical or mental illness, impairment or disability
  • wearing it would cause you severe distress
  • you and the person you’re teaching live in the same household
Wearing glasses does not count as a good reason.
You can be fined £60 if you do not wear a face covering during a driving lesson in Scotland. This will be reduced to £30 if you pay within 28 days. More information from the Scottish Government about driving lessons.
